Profiles in Courage Scholarship: The Profile in Courage Essay contest invites high school students to consider the concept of political courage by writing an essay on a U.S. elected official who has chosen to do what is right, rather than what is expedient. The contest challenges students to discover new profiles in courage, and to research and write about acts of political courage that occurred after the 1956 publication of John F. Kennedy’s “Profiles in Courage”. The winner receives a $20,000 prize and is invited to accept the award at the Profiles in Courage Award ceremony held each May at the Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston. The Generation Google Scholarship was established to help aspiring computer scientists excel in technology and become leaders in the field. Required to be a student from an underrepresented group in computer science (African American, Hispanic, American Indian, or female). Selected students will receive 10,000 USD (for those studying in the US) or 5,000 CAD (for those studying in Canada) for the 2016-2017 school year. As part of the scholarship, current high school seniors who are entering their first year of university in 2015-2016 will be required to attend Google’s Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) in the summer of 2016. Google Anita Borg Scholarship recipients will each receive a $10,000 award for the 2015-2016 academic year. A group of female undergraduate and graduate students will be chosen from the applicant pool, and scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of each candidate's academic background and demonstrated leadership. Applicants must be majoring in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related computer field.
